Arts & Activities

Express yourself

NC State sponsors hundreds of year-round arts programs and other activities for its students and faculty. From ARTS NC State,  to student arts organizations and honorary societies to on-campus cinema, student-run media outlets, and much more — there are plenty of ways to fill your free time and express yourself at NC State.

Many of these activities support NC State’s six visual and performing arts departments and include the following highlights:

  • Center Stage presents professional performing arts, featuring jazz, modern dance, world music, comedy, theatre and more.
  • Crafty or just DIY-curious? The Crafts Center offers classes in art, pottery, photography, fibers, woodworking, glass, musical instrument creation, telescope-making class and others. Practice and refine your craft outside class at the many working studios.
  • The NCSU Dance Company performs modern dance works by the company's artistic director and guest artists and DanceVisions performs works that focus on the African-American cultural experience.
  • The Gregg Museum of Art & Design showcases student, regional, national and international art with ongoing exhibitions and permanent installations.
  • A thriving NC State music department includes courses and ensembles for all types of musical interests and sponsors concerts throughout the year.
  • A volunteer student theatre produces critically-acclaimed and often sold-out shows year round. The summer TheatreFest season gets local community actors involved with students on stage.
  • Culture vultures need not look elsewhere for total immersion in the arts. A special Arts Village opening in Fall 2007 is home to students who have a passion for the arts and who want to grow their creativity by interacting and even living among faculty, staff and other like-minded students.

Leadership opportunities

Princeton Review named NC State to its’ list of Colleges with a Conscience, noting, “Education at these schools isn’t only about private gain – it’s about the public good.” NC State was selected because of its record of excellent service-learning programs and blending academics with community work. At NC State, there are ample opportunities to practice what you care about.
