Recommendations
Letters of recommendation are often required for graduate programs, scholarships, and fellowships. Since they take time to compose, request them well in advance of deadlines.
Choose individuals who know you well and are able to communicate your strengths, accomplishments, and career interests. These may faculty members, advisors, internship or co-op supervisors, or community members. Meet with them personally - provide a copy of your resume and a description of the opportunity.
Letters of recommendation are not required for internships and jobs. If you have an outstanding letter you would like to share with an employer, you may wish to send a copy with your resume or take a copy with you to an interview. (Keep the original letter for your file.)
Take time to thank those who write your letters of recommendation - send or email a thank you note.
