Students Bring in Halloween with Monster Dash

University Recreation held the second annual Monster Dash obstacle race on Centennial Campus on October 29. 30 teams with four participants each competed in the Halloween-themed obstacle race. Participants completed multiple tasks including scaling piles of hay bales, low crawling fields of net, and paddling on Lake Raleigh. “The Teletubbies” including students Peter Ciaccio, Andrew Carlson, Manuel-kent Goti, and Jonathan Sommerville, left with the win, finishing in under 36 minutes, but they had stiff competition. “The Avengers” including students Tabitha Cabral, Matt Benbow, Corey Zablud, and Tyler Sturgill, had a head start when they completed the first puzzle in under two minutes, but “The Teletubbies” passed them at some point during the run. The two teams were less than a minute apart when they finished, with “The Teletubbies” finishing in exactly 35:44 and “The Avengers” finishing in 36:08. All the teams completed five obstacles, with the canoe paddle on Lake Raleigh being a favorite.

Included with the obstacle race, participants had the option to enter a costume contest. The winners of the costume contest were the “Homemade Warriors” with runner-ups being the “Harry Potter Crew”, “The Santa Claus'”, and “The Teletubbies”.

Brittany Guerin, Fitness Coordinator for University Recreation, was one of the many staff that worked several months to put this event together. She said, “Overall, the event was a huge success. Watching the teams work together through the obstacles was a great representation of the Wolfpack community. As they crossed the finish line, some teams thought it was harder than Warrior Dash! We look forward to seeing what this event grows into next year.”
