CHASS Intra-campus transfer admission policy

Students who wish to change to another major in CHASS or to add a second major in CHASS will be eligible to submit an electronic application once they have completed at least 12 letter-graded hours and have a GPA of at least 2.0. Departments will review all applicants on a competitive basis. Candidates who meet the preferred requirements outlined below have a higher probability of being accepted for admission. However, meeting the preferred requirements does not guarantee admission to the desired major.

COMMUNICATION

Effective Spring 2014 term: preference given to applicants with a total GPA of 3.0 or higher and to those who have completed ENG 101 with a “B-“ or better and completion of COM 200 plus 3 additional hours in COM at the 200-level or higher, establishing a COM GPA of at least 2.5.

 

The inactivated preferred requirement was: Completion of two of the following three courses with a grade of C- or better: COM 230, 240 or 250 Communication is unable to consider students with a GPA less than 2.5

 

ENGLISH

… with fewer than 30 hours of coursework

 

Preference is given to applicants with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and those who have completed one gateway course for the concentration they seek to enter (scroll down for gateway courses) with a grade of B- or above. No applications are accepted from students with a GPA below 2.0

 

…with more than 30 hours of coursework

 

Preference is given to applicants with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and to those who have completed two gateway courses for the concentration they seek to enter (scroll down for gateway courses) with a grade of B- or above in each course. No applications are accepted from students with a GPA below 2.0

English Teacher Education

Because it is very difficult for students to transfer into the teacher education program and complete degree requirements in four years, we recommend that students consult the coordinators of the LTN program, Dr. Jason Miller (Jason_miller@ncsu.edu) or Dr. Jeff Reaser (jeff_reaser@ncsu.edu) before proceeding with their application.

 

FOREIGN LANGUAGES and LITERATURES

Recommended completion of ENG 101 with a grade B or better and FLF, FLG or FLS 201 and 202 with a grade of B- or better.

 

HISTORY

Preference given for transfer to HI major (BA or BS) is 3.0 GPA after 12 hours of grades at NC State.

Or with GPA less than 3.0 but over 2.5, preference for completion of one HI course with grade of B- or better.

With GPA less than 2.5 but over 2.0, preference for completion of two HI courses with grade of B- or better.

If GPA is less than 2.0, we do not accept the student's application.

 

INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES

Africana Studies

Preference is given to students who have completed two of the following AFS courses with a grade of “B-“ or better in each: AFS 240, 241, 342, 343, 344, 345, 346, 442, 490, 491, 497.

 

Arts Studies

Preference is given to students who have completed one course in their intended foundational art area with a grade of “B-“ or better, from the following lists:

  • Visual ARC 140, 261, 441, 442; ADN 414; GD 200, 342; HA 201, 202, 203, 298, 310, 320, 395, 401, 404; LAR 423, 444
  • Music MUS 201, 202, 230, 260, 301, 302, 310, 315, 320, 330, 335, 340, 345, 350, 351, 360, 495

International Studies: 16INTSTBA

Preference is given to applicants who have completed IS 200 with a grade of “B-“ or better and to students who are making satisfactory progress toward meeting the International Studies foreign language requirement. Note:  CHASS graduation requirements require completion of FL_ 201 and the BA in International Studies students are required to demonstrate proficiency in at least one foreign language equivalent to the FL_3xx level.

Science, Technology, and Society

Preference is given to students who have completed STS 214 with a grade of “B-“ or better.

 

Women’s and Gender Studies

Preference is given to students who have completed WGS 200 or 210 with a grade of “B-“ or better

 

PHILOSOPHY AND RELIGIOUS STUDIES

Philosophy – recommends completion of a philosophy course with a B- or better.

Religious Studies – recommends completion of a religious studies course with a B- or better.

 

POLITICAL SCIENCE

Completion of at least 6 hours of PS coursework at the 200-level or above with a B or better in each course.

 

PSYCHOLOGY

GPA = 2.5 and

 

B- or better PSY 200

B- or better PSY 230

B- or better BIO 105/106, BIO 181, BIO 183, ZO 150 or ZO 160

B- or better MA 107 or higher

B- or better ENG 101

 

SOCIAL WORK

Student has completed SW 201 with a B- or better

Student has had an interview with Coordinator of Undergraduate Advising or BSW Program Director.

 

SOCIOLOGY and ANTHROPOLGY

For transfer into a sociology major:

  • If your GPA is from 2.00 to 2.49 after at least 12 hours at NC State and you would like to apply to transfer into a sociology major, please email Jenny Rasch (jenny_rasch@ncsu.edu) to inquire about possibilities.
  • If your GPA is from 2.50 to 2.99 after at least 12 hours at NC State AND you have earned a B- or higher in SOC 202, you may apply to transfer.
  • If your GPA is 3.00 or higher after at least 12 hours at NC State, you may apply, and you will be admitted to the major.

For transfer into a criminology major

  • If your GPA is from 2.00 to 2.49 after at least 12 hours at NC State and you would like to apply to transfer into a criminology major, please email Jenny Rasch (jenny_rasch@ncsu.edu) to inquire about possibilities.
  • If your GPA is from 2.50 to 2.99 after at least 12 hours at NC State AND you have earned a B- or higher in SOC 202 AND you have earned a B- or higher in either SOC 206 or SOC 306, you may apply to transfer.
  • If your GPA is 3.00 or higher after at least 12 hours at NC State, you may apply, and you will be admitted to the major.

For transfer into an anthropology major

  • If your GPA is from 2.00 to 2.49 after at least 12 hours at NC State and you would like to apply to transfer into an anthropology major, please email Jenny Rasch (jenny_rasch@ncsu.edu) to inquire about possibilities.
  • If your GPA is from 2.50 to 2.99 after at least 12 hours at NC State AND you have earned a B- or higher in ANT 251or ANT 252 or ANT 253 or ANT 254, you may apply to transfer.
  • If your GPA is 3.00 or higher after at least 12 hours at NC State, you may apply, and you will be admitted to the major.
