History
Wolf Plaza, located near several residence halls, features a trio of bronze wolf sculptures. The wolves, unveiled in the spring of 2010, were created by artist Michael Stutz.

After studying painting at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and York Street College of Art and design in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Michael Stutz began his professional career in San Francisco supporting himself in the Display and Advertising business.

While living in New Orleans in the mid-nineties, Stutz developed his woven technique while building sculptures for the Mardi Gras parades. Developed for an interactive public space, the whimsical yet intimidating nature of carnival props placed the viewer in a child-like relationship to the much larger-than-life-sized sculptures. The parades were loud, bright and chaotic. Spectacle and theater absorbed individual concerns, and rendered the artist a contributor to public ritual.

In every work that he builds, detail and obsessive craftsmanship yield objects which are a blend of mind, body, and time within a culture that often holds these out of synch. By exploring the dichotomies between public and private, internal and external, Stutz hopes to create an intimate and human ideal.
