Chair and Chair-Elect Official Duties
Chair Official Duties
- The Chair of the Faculty is an ex officio, voting member of the Faculty Senate. The Faculty Senate meets roughly twice a month with Faculty Senate Committees meeting during alternate weeks twice a month.
- The Chair also serves as Chair of the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee meets twice a month to plan Faculty Senate and Faculty Senate Committee activities.
- The Executive Committee meets with the Chancellor (and Provost) twice a semester.
- The Chair, Chair-Elect, and Secretary meet with the Provost prior to each Faculty Senate meeting.
- The Chair presides at the General Faculty Meeting (September and April)). The Chair, Chair-Elect, and Secretary meet with the Chancellor and Provost to plan the General faculty meetings.
- The Chair is a member of the University Council that meets twice a semester (September, November, February, and April).
- The Chair is a member of the Academic and Administrative Coordinating Group which meets twice a semester (August, October, January, and March).
- The Chair participates at the Board of Trustees meetings (September, November, February, and April).
- The Chair coordinates the Mediation and Grievance processes performing the role of “gatekeeper” by advising parties of their rights under these processes. The Chair coordinates the establishment of Grievance Committees and the assignment of chairs.
- The chair is a member of the Committee on Committees (May), the Honorary Degree Committee
- The chair meets with each dean once a year.
- The chair addresses each colleges general faculty meeting once a year.
- The Chair addresses the department heads group once a year.
- The chair participates in the New Faculty Orientation (September), Graduation (December and May), Founders’ Day (March 7).
- The Chair is invited to participate in the ROTC commissioning, (Dec, May) Navy-Marine Birthday (November), Brotherhood Dinner (December)
Chair-Elect Official Duties
- The Chair-Elect of the Faculty is an ex officio, voting member of the Faculty Senate. The Faculty Senate meets roughly twice a month.
- The Chair-Elect serves on the Executive Committee and one of the Faculty Senate Committees of his/her choice. The Faculty Senate Committees meet during alternate weeks twice a month. The Executive Committee meets twice a month to plan Faculty Senate and Faculty Senate Committee activities.
- The Executive Committee meets with the Chancellor (and Provost) twice a semester.
- The Chair, Chair-Elect, and faculty Senate Secretary meet with the Provost prior to each Faculty Senate meeting.
- The Chair-Elect is a member of the University Council that meets twice a semester (September, November, February, and April).
- The Chair-Elect participates in the General Faculty Meeting (September and April). The Chair, Chair-Elect, and Faculty Senate Secretary meet with the Chancellor and Provost to plan the General Faculty meetings.
- The Chair-Elect is a member of the Watauga Medal Selection Committee that meets once in the Fall Semester (October).
- The Chair-Elect is a member of the Committee on Committees (May)
- The Chair-Elect participates in Graduation (December and May).
- The Chair-Elect participates in the week long “Connecting North Carolina” bus trip in the May of the year of taking office (following the Spring Commencement).
