R2: 2000/2001: Resolution of Commendation (Dr. Art Cooper)

FACULTY SENATE
Resolution of Commendation
Whereas: Professor Arthur W. Cooper, Department of Forestry, College of Natural Resources, has distinguished himself as the Faculty Athletics Representative over a period of eleven years at NC State University, and
Whereas: Professor Coopers service has been recognized
time and again by his peers among the Faculty Athletics Representatives of the Atlantic
Coast Conference, and by Commissioners Corrigan and Swofford themselves, citing his
extraordinary commitment, open-mindedness, fairness and collegiality, and
B Professor Cooper has been elected to the prestigious position of membership on
the Management Council of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and served
with distinction in that position, and
Whereas: Professor Cooper has demonstrated long term commitment to the Academic Support Program for student-athletes, and
Whereas: Professor Coopers constant efforts, oversight, guidance and wisdom in upgrading the academic climate for our student-athletes through the Academic Support Program has led to the annual graduation rates for NC State student-athletes being consistently comparable or exceeding those of the general student body, and
Whereas: Professor Cooper has been a leader within the Atlantic Coast Conference and nationally in the fight to provide appropriate support structures to enhance the academic success of all student-athletes, and
Whereas: Professor Coopers contributions to the student-athletes at NC State and throughout the Conference occurred at a time when he served commendably in both the classroom and as department head, therefore be it
Resolved: That the faculty of NC State University commends Professor Art Cooper on his extraordinary contributions to the academic success of our student-athletes and on his contributions to intercollegiate athletics nationally, and be it further
Resolved: That the faculty of NC State University offers its
appreciation and best wishes to Professor Cooper as he retires from his service as
university Faculty Athletics Representative.
