FACULTY SENATE
Resolution of Commendation
Whereas: Provost Kermit L. Hall has served as Provost and Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs since July, 1999; and
Whereas: Provost Halls eminence as a historian, both in scholarship and in public service, has brought distinction to NC State University; and
Whereas: Provost Hall has demonstrated his commitment to teaching by offering a senior seminar course for majors in the History Department; and
Whereas: Provost Hall has shown his support for enhancing the quality of instruction at NC State in his consistent advocacy of teaching and learning initiatives across the university, and by instituting the Provosts Departmental Awards for Teaching and Learning Excellence; and
Whereas: Provost Hall has supported faculty governance by advocating the principles of transparency, openness, and faculty input and has helped incorporate those principles into the procedures for reappointment, promotion, and tenure and for the review of administrative positions; and
Whereas: Provost Halls commitment to the faculty has enhanced faculty governance at NC State, and brought the university distinction in the academic community; and
Whereas: Provost Hall has raised awareness of scholarly communication issues and championed the rights of faculty to intellectual property and in the scholarly publishing process; and
Whereas: Provost Hall has embodied the great traditions of NC State University in teaching, research, service and outreach; therefore be it
Resolved: That the faculty of NC State University offers its appreciation to Provost Hall for his service to the university and offers its best wishes in his new position as President of Utah State University.
