FACULTY SENATE
Censure Resolution
Whereas: The Faculty Senate has advisory, consultative, and shared governance responsibility to voice its opinion and concern regarding the Chancellors exercise of her legal authority for staffing decisions within the university administration, and
Whereas: The university community expects that authority to be exercised with fairness in a non-precipitous, reasoned and civil manner, and
Whereas: The recent firings in the Provosts office, resulting in the Provosts resignation in protest, failed to meet those expectations, and
Whereas: Firing individuals not directly reporting to the Chancellor over the objections of those individuals immediate administrative superior officer undermines if not destroys the leadership role of that officer, and
Whereas: The authority of the Provost has been usurped as a result of the Chancellors actions, and
Whereas: The Chancellor has shown serious lack of judgement in firing two Vice Provosts who commanded widespread respect and regard within the university community, and
Whereas: The Chancellors actions have damaged the relationship between the faculty and the administration, and have diminished the public image of the university, therefore be it
Resolved: That the Faculty Senate censures the Chancellor for her actions in this instance in the strongest possible terms and be it further
Resolved: That the Faculty Senate supports the strengthening of the Provost as the chief academic officer of the university in actuality, with primary influence over personnel and financial matters that directly impact academic affairs.
