FACULTY SENATE
Resolution of Commendation
Whereas, as a researcher, teacher, and administrator, Stuart L. Cooper has achieved a commendable record over decades of distinguished service at the Illinois Institute of Technology, the University of Delaware, and the University of Wisconsin, before coming to North Carolina State University, and
Whereas, honors accrued to him include the Clemson Award for Basic Research of the Society for Biomaterials and the Charles M. A. Stine Award of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and
Whereas, he is a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Physical Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and
Whereas, he has served N. C. State as Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and
Whereas, he has been the Universitys chief academic officer, if not in fact then as a desideratum, and
Whereas, his duties as Provost were performed honestly, openly, and meritoriously, and
Whereas, he served as a member of the Faculty Senate as an equal among equals, a friend among friends, and
Whereas, as an administrator, he acted as a teacher among teachers, a researcher among researchers, and a mentor among mentors, and
Whereas, his leadership as Provost was collegial, amenable, and amicable, and
Whereas, he placed integrity above personal ambition and steadfastness of purpose above the expedient, and
Whereas, we rejoice that he assumes the honorable title and arduous duties of Professor of Chemical Engineering, and
Whereas, he leaves the Office of Provost with the appreciation and admiration of the Universitys Faculty, therefore be it
Resolved, that the Faculty of NC State University offers its gratitude and appreciation to Professor Stuart L. Cooper.
