FACULTY SENATE
Resolution of Commendation
Whereas: George Worsley, Vice Chancellor for Finance and Business, has distinguished himself over a period of forty-one years of service to North Carolina State University, and
Whereas: he has given leadership as Vice Chancellor for Finance and Business (1976-2004) during a quarter century of “interesting times,” involving both growth and opportunity as well as budget adversity, that have seen North Carolina State University evolve into a preeminent research and teaching university, and
Whereas: he has been instrumental in guiding legislative changes modernizing the financial management of higher education, and
Whereas: he co-authored the seminal paper outlining the details of financial flexibility that resulted in Management Flexibility for the UNC System, and
Whereas: he has been recognized by the NC State Alumni Association in 2003 with the Honorary Alumnus Award, for his faithful participation in the life of the University, and
Whereas: in 2002, he was honored by his national peers and received the Distinguished Business Officer of the Year award from the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), an honor recognizing outstanding achievement in business and financial management in higher education, and
Whereas: he has been a major force in the development and success of NC State’s Centennial Campus, helping oversee its transformation from an undeveloped tract of land into a model for university research parks, and
Whereas: he was instrumental in the negotiations for the Entertainment and Sports Arena (Now the RBC Center) that showcases North Carolina State University athletic and academic events, therefore be it
Resolved: that the faculty of North Carolina State University offers its appreciation and best wishes to our colleague Vice Chancellor George Worsley upon his retirement from North Carolina State University.
