R4: 2004/2005: Resolution of Commendation to Interim Chancellor Barnhardt

FACULTY SENATE
Resolution of Commendation
Whereas: Robert A. Barnhardt, has distinguished himself over a period of forty-three years through the teaching of undergraduate and graduate students; and
Whereas: he has given leadership as Dean of the College of Textiles (1987-1999) which enabled the college to become the most modern and best-equipped textile institution in the world and a national example of outreach and partnership; and
Whereas: he has twice served as President of the National Council of Textile Education, Vice President of the College Internationale de L’Enseignement Textile (CIETX), President of the American section of the Textile Institute, and as an honorary U.S. member of the Groupe Europeen d’exchange d’experiences sur la Direction de la Recherche Textile (GEDRT); and
Whereas: he was one of the key innovators associated with the establishment of the National Textile Center; and
Whereas: he has been recognized for his contributions through numerous honors, including Textile Institute Fellow, Textile Institute Medal, and Association of Textile Institutes’ Top Ten Industry Leaders; and
Whereas: Robert A. Barnhardt served as Interim Provost (January-May 2003) providing for a stabilizing presence and continuity in a time of transition; and
Whereas: Robert A. Barnhardt served as Interim Chancellor (July 2004-January 2005) helping maintain the momentum in North Carolina State University’s drive to be recognized as the nation’s leading land-grant university; and
Whereas: he has helped to identify major challenges and opportunities facing the university and how the administration can respond to those issues; and
Whereas: he has maintained active communications with the trustees, executive officers, faculty, staff, and students as well as with the North Carolina public; therefore be it
Resolved: that the faculty of North Carolina State University offers its appreciation and best wishes to North Carolina State University’s Robert A. Barnhardt.
