FACULTY SENATE

Resolution of Commendation
for
Coach Herbert Sendek

Whereas: the Faculty Senate recognizes the important role of intercollegiate athletics at North Carolina State University, and

Whereas: the Senate believes that the mission of the university is based upon academic excellence, and

Whereas: as head coach of the Men’s Basketball team, Herbert Sendek has distinguished himself as a coach and teacher at North Carolina State University since 1997, and

Whereas: Coach Sendek has been recognized by the faculty at North Carolina State University as a respected peer, and

Whereas: Coach Sendek -- high school valedictorian, summa cum laude graduate of Carnegie Mellon University -- served as the seventeenth Wolfpack Men’s Basketball coach and took our team to five consecutive appearances at the National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament, an accomplishment that only fifteen men’s basketball coaches in the nation may claim, and

b Coach Sendek has been honored by his peers, selected as Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 2004, and elected to the Western Chapter of the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame, and/p>

Whereas: Coach Sendek with both his enthusiasm for the game and his competitive drive has been an inspiration not only to his players but to all who know him, and

Whereas: Coach Sendek has spent a decade recruiting, training, and mentoring young men of high athletic ability, who represent the University as student athletes with distinction and integrity; therefore be it

Resolved: that the Faculty Senate of North Carolina State University offers its best wishes, appreciation, and commendation to Coach Herb Sendek for his emphasis on academic achievement, integrity, family and faith, professionalism and leadership, and for his strong ethical approach to college athletics.
