An interview with four-term N.C. governor James B. Hunt ('59).
Spring commencement is less than a week away for NC State's Class of 2009 – a group of high achievers with bright minds, graduates fully prepared to go out into the world and enact positive change in a global community. On the eve of such an historic event, we sat down with former North Carolina governor James B. Hunt ('59) – one of the newest members of the university's "Forever Club" – to find out what it was like to be an NC State student 50 years ago.
During the conversation, Hunt fondly recalled campus housing, his contraband popcorn popper and his role as study body president. After graduating from NC State, Hunt went on to serve an historic four terms as governor of North Carolina, and is now a partner in the Womble Carlyle law firm and chair of the Institute for Emerging Issues at NC State, the National Center for Public Policy and the Hunt Institute for Educational Leadership and Policy.
