Scores of students, friends and cancer survivors were among more than 1,000 individuals gathered at Lee Field in mid April for the fifth-annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life at NC State University. The 16-hour event featured live music, a luminaria lighting, sports tournaments and a woman-less beauty pageant in hopes of raising thousands of dollars for cancer research.

Relays are held on campuses across the nation, and each event gives the entire community an chance to celebrate survivors, remember those who lost their battle with cancer, and to fight back against this disease. Although this year's event has ended, donations are still being accepted through the American Cancer Society's website.
