Greek Life Staff

The department of Greek Life is a dynamic team with varied experience and expertise to support the Greek Community at NC State.

Director of Greek Life

Responsibilities

Background: Shelly is a Delta Zeta from Southern Illinois University. Shelly earned her Master's Degree from SIUC and worked at Bowling Green State University coordinating Leadership Programs, Sorority Housing and advising the NPHC for three years before joining the NC State staff in the Fall of 2001 as Associate Director of Greek Life. In July of 2013, she was appointed Interim Director of Greek Life. She was promoted to the role of Director of Greek Life in May 2014. Shelly spends her weekends traveling to campuses around the country presenting workshops on recruitment, intake, hazing and social justice. She has two girls, Emma and Reese, both active in soccer and dance. She was elected to the Executive Board for the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors for 3 terms, and served as the 2012 President.

Responsibilities

Chris is a graduate of the University of Missouri and a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He joins the Greek Life staff with prior experiences as Assistant Director for Student Involvement at George Mason University and the Associate Director of Leadership and Student Involvement at Olde Dominion University. Chris is an active member of the fraternity/sorority community serving as a volunteer for Phi Beta Sigma's Professional Advisors Council, facilitator for Phi Kappa Tau's National Leadership Academy, and a facilitator for Alpha Xi Delta's Founders' Academy. He is passionate about advancing fraternal movement and brings more than six years of professional experience working in depth with NIC, NPC, NPHC, NALFO, NAPA and NMGC organizations.

Responsibilities

Background: Josh is a graduate of Western Carolina University and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He joins the Greek Life staff with prior experiences as the Assistant Director of Residence and Greek Life at the University of Central Missouri. He recently served as a national staff member for Sigma Alpha Epsilon's Fraternity Service Center. Josh's expertise is in risk reduction. He also partners with a number of national fraternities and sororities to provide leadership experiences and is an advocate for the fraternal movement. He brings more than six years of experience working with fraternities, sororities and housing.

Responsibilities

Background: Mary received her undergraduate degree from Clemson University and earned her Master's Degree from Florida State University before working full-time at Clemson and the University of Florida. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Mary is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration.

Responsibilities

Background: Mitzi hails from Bronx, New York and moved to Raleigh in 1989. Mitzi graduated from Elizabeth Seton College in Yonkers, NY in 1980 with an Associate in Applied Science. After graduation, Mitzi joined the United States Army where she was employed as an Administrative Clerk. Mitzi served her time overseas in Bad Kreuznach, Germany where she met her husband Michael. Mitzi is the proud mother of three and grandmother of six.

Kappa Alpha Order

Responsibilities

Background: Shane is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He graduated in 2012 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. As an undergraduate, he served as President and Treasurer for the National Pan-Hellenic council at UNCC, was the Keeper of Records and Historian for his undergraduate chapter. Shane was also a mentor for The University Transition Opportunities Program (UTOP), which helps facilitate the underrepresented student's transition from high school to college. Now at NC State, Shane is pursuing his Masters Degree in Higher Education Administration.

Delta Zeta

Responsibilities

Background: Natalie is a member of Gamma Eta Sorority, Inc. She graduated in 2013 from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and minors in Educational Studies, Theater, and Family, Youth, and Community Sciences. During her time at UF, she served as the Director of Programming for the Multicultural Greek Council and a Florida Greek Ambassador, the official student ambassadors for Sorority and Fraternity Affairs. She was the Overall Director for her chapter's annual philanthropy, Gamma Eta's Lupus Fashion Show, which raises awareness and funds for the Lupus Foundation of America. She was also involved with Florida Players, UF's student theater company, serving as their Historian and Treasurer. Natalie is currently pursuing a master of education in higher education administration at NC State.

Sigma Phi Epsilon

Background: Tyler graduated from NC State with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Plant Biology and a minor in genetics. He is currently a PhD student in the Comparative Biomedical Sciences program. Tyler is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and served as an Office Associate for the Multicultural Student Affairs department, a representative on the Student Center's Board of Directors and President of his undergraduate chapter. He is originally from Houston, Texas, but has lived in N.C. for the past nine years. Tyler enjoys tasting different types of bread (croissants are his favorite), reading and mentoring.

Ellen graduated from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, in May 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Spanish minor. During her time at Hope College, she was very active on campus with leadership roles in multiple offices. She was an Orientation Director in Student Life, a Teaching Assistant for the Nursing Department, and a Student Ambassador for the Office of College Advancement. In addition, Ellen was the Student Life Intern and worked closely with the Residential Life and Greek Life leadership teams. She also had the opportunity to spend nine weeks in Europe studying abroad as well as traveling, and she spent her final undergraduate semester living and completing a nursing internship in Chicago. Currently a student at NC State, Ellen is pursing her Master's of Higher Education Administration and will graduate in May 2016.

Background: A triangle native, Matt is currently working towards his M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration at NC State. Prior to joining the Wolfpack, he attended UNC Chapel Hill for his undergrad, earning a degree in German Literature and Culture, as well as spent a summer working in Germany. In addition to working as a CRA, Matt works as a Graduate Assistant in Duke's Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. In his spare time, Matt enjoys reading, cooking, going to the movies and video games.

Background: Hello, my name is Benoit Sabourin and I am a recent graduate of UNCG with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama. I am now attending NC State for my Masters of Education in Higher Education Administration. I am a proud brother of the Phi Theta Zeta Chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha, and am very excited to be continuing my Greek experience as a Chapter Advisor! I am originally from France, but have lived in the Triangle for 14 years now, and it feels great to be back! I am a theatre and performing arts enthusiast, as well as an outdoor adventurist! If there is a slight danger factor to something fun, then I am probably the first in line!

Background: Rose is originally from Boston, Mass. and is currently working toward her M.Ed in Clinical Mental Health Counseling here at NC State. She is a former West Campus Residence Director (RD), where she has directly serviced Lee Hall students for the past two years. Despite being from Boston, she is quite familiar with the Triangle. Rose attended North Carolina Central University for her undergraduate degree in Psychology. In addition to the CRA position, Rose currently serves as an intern at the NC State Counseling Center located in the Student Health Center. In her spare time, Rose enjoys traveling, reading, dancing, listening to music, cheering on her favorite sports teams and spending time with family and friends.

Background: Park recently graduated from NC State with a Bachelors of Science in Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology. During his time at NC State, he served as a University Ambassador, College of Natural Resources (CNR) Ambassador, and the CNR Engaging Leaders Coordinator, a leadership development program for incoming students. He is currently working on his M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration and will graduate in May 2016. Park also serves as the Sophomore Year Experience Graduate Assistant at Duke University.

Background: Catie graduated from NC State with a Bachelor of Science in both Business Administration and Accounting. She is currently pursing her M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration. Catie is also a graduate assistant with NC State's Student Involvement office where she advises UAB and Student Government committees. In her free time, Catie enjoys pursuing her interest in photography, spending time at the beach, and cheering on NC State.

During her time at UNC Charlotte, she was very active on campus with multiple leadership roles, including Orientation Counselor, Director for the Campus Activities Board and Student Ambassador. During her free time, Bianca loves to cheer on her favorite sports teams, explore the city and spend time with her family and friends.
