Certificate Programs
Certificate programs are at the heart of what the GTI offers. Many international students find it difficult to study in the States because of limited student exchange opportunities. But the GTI Certificate Programs make it possible.
We are currently offering two certificates, both of which are full-time study programs at NC State University.
1) Certificate in US Culture and Higher Education (GTE)
(academic option)
This certificate focuses on full-time (12+ credit hours) coursework in a given field of study.1. Students take the required and highly beneficial GTI 401 course (3 credit hours).
2. Students take 3-4 more courses.
(Courses are chosen from many of the 110 fields of study offered at NC State - depending on space, time, permissions from professors and prerequisite requirements.)
2) Certificate in US Culture and Cooperative Education (GTC)
(internship/research option)
(limited to select J-1 students)This certificate focuses on half-time coursework and half-time research or an internship.
1. Students take the required and highly beneficial GTI 401 course (3 credit hours).
2. Students take 1-2 more courses.
(Courses are chosen from many of the 110 fields of study offered at NC State - depending on space, time, permissions from professors and prerequisite requirements.)
3. Students participant in either a paid or unpaid internship with a North Carolina business or research with an NC State faculty.
Highlights of the Certificates
- earn a Certificate in US Culture and Education in one term (semester)
- benefit from the GTI 401 course (a dynamic course which gives international students the skills and training needed to be successful in a western university)
- take additional classes in most fields of study offered at NC State (110 fields of study are offered at NC State)
- work in an internship with a NC business or do research with an NC State faculty [for select students in option #2 (GTC) only]
- improve your English
- all work is recorded on an NC State transcript
- coursework is usually transferable to other universities
- prepare for a graduate program in America
- enhance your current graduate program (by invitation of an NC State faculty only)
- experience American university campus life - live either on-campus in a residence hall (limited space available in some semesters) or off-campus
- enjoy sight seeing in one of the most beautiful states in the US
- students participating in the GTI Certificate Program at NC State are normally eligible for an F-1 or J-1 student visa (depending on funding and the particular situation for each student)
