Native American Heritage Month Events

When:     Monday, November 12, 6-8 p.m.

Where:   126 Witherspoon Student Center, Washington Sankofa Room

What:      Film and Discussion of “Spirit of the Dawn”, which explores the dramatic changes in Indian education from boarding schools of the past, where children were beaten for speaking their language in school, to the more culturally sensitive classrooms of today. When:     Saturday, November 17, noon-5 p.m.

Where:    NC Museum of History, Raleigh, NC

What:      18th Annual American Indian Heritage Celebration.  Each year, in honor of American Indian Heritage Month, the NC Museum of History sponsors the State-Wide Native American Celebration. This year, the Native American Student Association (NASA) will volunteer as activity facilitators.  Go to http://ncmuseumofhistory.org for more information.

What:      Cheraw Language Lesson. Through his research, Duane Brayboy-Williams (Lumbee) has begun the process of language revitalization of Cheraw dialect of the Catawba language.  Come hear about this journey to regain language and learn words and phrases.  Contact Kaleb Clark at kclark@ncsu.edu for more information.
