From the Director
Dear Friends,
In 2007 IEI began an ambitious program of work on Energy. During the 2008 Emerging Issues Forum, “North Carolina’s Energy Futures: Realizing a State of Opportunity,” we promised that after six months we would update you on the state’s advancements. Our Energy program report highlights the impressive progress North Carolina is making as it builds its new energy economy. Given the tough economic times confronting the nation and North Carolina, it is particularly important that we all continue to support the identified efforts to reposition North Carolina as a leader in the new energy economy.
There is still much work to do, and we need your help. In order to ensure that the benefits of the new energy economy reach all corners of North Carolina, IEI is hosting energy forums across the state with the North Carolina Regional Economic Development Partnerships and North Carolina Cooperative Extension.
At each Regional Forum, local and regional leaders will talk about their strategies for creating green jobs and businesses based on existing local assets and opportunities. Regions will also have a chance to make clear how their local and statewide partners can support further exploration, refinement and implementation of economic development opportunities.
Regional Forums are free of charge and open to the public. They will be held in Charlotte, the Triad, the Triangle and in the East. We would love for you to join us at any of these Regional Forums. Visit www.emergingissues.org to register and to review the agendas.
As always, we look forward to your insights and guidance as we continue to help North Carolina take advantage of the tremendous opportunities that will exist in the new energy economy.
