Update on the GlaxoSmithKline Faculty Fellows
The GSK Faculty Fellows have been hard at work helping IEI with its programs of work. At a September meeting, the Fellows provided invaluable input into IEI’s new program of work on growth and infrastructure as well as thoughts about topics for the 2010 Emerging Issues Forum.
UNC-Greensboro’s Keith Debbage published an op-ed in the Raleigh News and Observer about the importance of the upcoming Census in 2010. He and GSK Graduate Fellow Jake Kidd recently completed a major study of potential supply chains for alternative energy industries in North Carolina. This work will be unveiled at IEI’s regional energy forums later this month. Martin Doyle of UNC-Chapel Hill also published an op-ed in the News and Observer on North Carolina’s growth patterns and consequent vulnerability to flooding from a major hurricane. Doyle also helped mediate a rules dispute between federal and state officials relating to the mitigation of the impact of development within the state’s watersheds.
Lastly, IEI has issued its latest “call for applications” for the 2009 class of GSK Fellows. The application deadline is November 14.
