Note from the Director
As 2008 comes to a close, I want to take this opportunity to thank the hundreds of partners who have worked with IEI this year to address the challenges facing our state and respond with innovative solutions. Our work together took us to all corners of the state and allowed us to collaborate with a multitude of North Carolina’s leaders, including many faces new to IEI.

Organizations in Action - NC Sustainable Energy Association
The NC Sustainable Energy Association (NCSEA) will present a major energy forum, Making Energy Work: Building a Sustainable Energy Economy in the Southeast, on February 3, 2009 at the Raleigh Convention Center. This day-long forum will explore the Southeast's emerging new energy economy and how sustainable energy resources in our region can work to expand our economies, create business opportunities, develop new workforces and enhance our energy security.
Did You Know?
Last time was bad enough! During the economic downturn in 2001-2002, our state’s leaders had to raise taxes on high income taxpayers by half a percentage point, and increase sales taxes by half a percentage point. Famously, these were “temporary” taxes. As it turns out, it took years to roll back the income tax hikes and half of the sales tax increases were made permanent.
