From the Director

Dear Friends,

This month marks an important milestone in the history of the Institute for Emerging Issues (IEI). On October 23, we will celebrate the official groundbreaking of our new home: the James B. Hunt, Jr. Library.

Twenty-five years ago, Governor Hunt began the Emerging Issues Forum at NC State so
that the state’s leaders could come together to consider the challenges facing
North Carolina and find solutions to address them. In 2002, it became apparent that two days of discussion about challenges was not enough, and IEI was founded to ensure a place where leaders could work to find consensus solutions to the state's most pressing issues.

Our work together is now poised to take another leap forward. The Hunt Library will mean you can expect more from IEI's work, as we offer new space for North Carolinians to explore big ideas for the future while learning about their past successes.

In developing a state-of-the-art meeting center with an interactive policy gallery as its anchor, IEI will both provide tools to clarify the issues and the convenings to debate them. The gallery will be a springboard for information and analysis, showcasing the growth and transformation of North Carolina. The adjacent meeting space will allow IEI to build on our successful model public policy process, bringing together the state's leaders to develop the policies and practices that will shape North Carolina for years to come.

As you can see, IEI has lofty ambitions for itself, the Hunt Library, and the future of North Carolina. Thank you for what you do to make this possible.
