GlaxoSmithKline Faculty Fellows - Program Update

Our GSK Fellows’ work continues to gain attention.  UNC-Charlotte’s Greg Weeks attended an invitation-only meeting this past month with John Morton, Assistant Secretary of United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the Department of Homeland Security.  Visiting the Charlotte area, Morton met with some two dozen community leaders to talk about immigration issues.

In the Raleigh News & Observer, Wake Tech’s Rich Cregar took issue with the U.S. House of Representatives’ "cap and trade" plan to combat global warming.  While recognizing the need to reduce greenhouse gasses, Cregar believes the scheme will be open to manipulation by special interests.  Equally important, it will lump all energy sources together, creating disincentives for the production of biofuels.  What is needed, he argues, is a simply tax on fossil carbon emissions, an approach that would incentivize a range of carbon neutral energy sources including biofuels.
