Note from the Director
The Institute for Emerging Issues’ (IEI) new Creativity, iNC program of work focuses on how to enhance North Carolina’s culture of creativity. Within IEI, we are pushing the frontiers of our own imaginations as we think about how to bring people together in new and different ways to explore the state’s creative possibilities. Be warned. This program promises to be the most exciting work of IEI’s seven year “think and do” history.
Update On Programs
Legislative Wrap Up: Energy & Taxes
House Bill 1481 was recently passed by the North Carolina General Assembly, providing the state with important energy reforms that will help secure North Carolina’s Energy Futures.
Unfortunately comprehensive tax modernization did not make its way into this year's budget, but promising steps were made that can lead to real reform in the near future.
Emerging Issues Debate
The Creative Urge
This month, IEI kicks off a new Emerging Debate on where creativity comes from and how it can be sustained. Carol Strohecker, director of the Center for Design Innovation, starts this interesting conversation by taking us from Einstein to Memphis.
If you would like to join in on the debate in an upcoming IEI Newsletter, please email us at institute@ncsu.edu.

IEI@Work
This year, the Research Triangle Park is celebrating its 50th Anniversary. As the largest science park in the world and regarded by many as the most successful, the RTP region is home to some of the most creative minds around. But what about this area makes it the kind of creative community that attracts businesses, residents and visitors? What unique combination of assets makes this area so successful? What can be done to enhance or replicate this creative community?
