The Stimulus: By the Numbers

Every day the media bombards us with numbers related to the stimulus -- $787 billion, 4 million new jobs, national deficits in the trillions of dollars. IEI going straight to the meat of the matter: What do all these national numbers mean for North Carolina? And where is our stimulus money headed?

Here's the breakdown:

Total Projected Appropriation: $6,100,294,000

Education: $1,882,043,000
Transportation: $854,984,000
Water: $137,959,000
Energy: $183,344,000
Health and Human Services: $2,461,906,000
Community Development: $124,455,000
Other: $455,603,000

In addition, there are more than 50 tax credits for individuals and business included in the bill that have revenue implications for North Carolina.  If the state adjusts its own statutes to be aligned with the Federal changes, it could cost as much as $225 million in FY 07-08, and more than $375 million in FY 09-10.
