NC STATE UNIVERSITY
Changing Landscapes: Building the Good Growth State?

Programs of Work

Each year, the Institute for Emerging Issues (IEI) selects an issue of concern to North Carolina as the focus of its next program of work.  IEI concentrates on economic development, finance, healthcare, the environment, energy and infrastructure and education.

Through its model public policy process, IEI is uniquely positioned to add value to the many important conversations taking place across our state and our nation with regards to the issues facing North Carolinians.

The process traditionally begins with an IEI Leadership Retreat, where select stakeholders across the state determine the salient challenges confronting North Carolina. Working Groups then synthesize research and identify promising ideas for the solution of future challenges.

These ideas are subject to review and debate at the annual Emerging Issues Forum, Regional Forums and other events across North Carolina.  At these Forums, leaders engage the issues and propose solutions.  IEI then mobilizes and supports these leaders and others as they turn ideas into action for the future of North Carolina.
