Tranforming Higher Education: A Competitive Advantage for North Carolina

Educating All North Carolinians

Today, six out of ten jobs in North Carolina require at least some post-secondary education and training. To remain competitive in the global economy, we must enable a greater percentage of our population to enroll in postsecondary education and complete a degree. The demands of a new economy make it necessary for all students to achieve at a high level.

The Working Group identified five priorities critical to educating all North Carolinians:

Increase access to higher education for low-income working adults.

Support existing and create new programs to enhance seamlessness from high school to college.

Establish effective mentoring networks to increase enrollment in higher education

Allow undocumented students the opportunity to receive a college education

Increase financial aid opportunities and increase knowledge of aid currently available.
