NC State University has chosen LITRE (Learning in a Technology-Rich Environment) as its quality enhancement plan for undergraduate education. A technology-rich environment includes current and future deployment of information technology systems, conventional and virtual computing labs, software, web pages, web tools and other technologies and resources used to access courseware, in-class and online instruction, learning materials and resources.
This campus-wide focus on teaching and learning with technology makes it even more important to ensure that technology does not create barriers to educational opportunities for students with disabilities.
Accessible information technologies refers to the universal usability of IT resources. For people with disabilities usability can be achieved by systemically integrating accessibility features, solutions and assistive technology within the technology design, development and deployment.
IT Accessibility Services provides a range of resources to help advance the university's commitment to diversity and equitable access to opportunities for all students including those with disabilities and ensures continued compliance with regulatory requirements under ADA and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Working in collaboration with campus, UNC-System and national partners, ITD staff continues to promote and integrate universal IT accessibility in the delivery of its resources and to develop innovative solutions to accessibility challenges for students at a leading science and technology institution.
