Accessible design does not mean sacrificing visual presentation. Beyond supporting the needs people with disabilities, accessible design concepts addresses user performance, multiple output modalities, mobile computing, technology limitations, site maintenance etc.
NC State offers faculty, students and staff tools and training to help them design their web sites and web application that balances accessibility with usability and visual appeal.
Web Page Accessibility Workshops
To help campus community meet the Web Page Accessibilty Regulation, ITD has added workshops on creating accessible documents (Word, PowerPoint and PDF) and accessible forms. For more information check Information Technology Division.
Workshops
Information Technology Division (ITD), Learning Technology Services (LTS) and Enterprise Technology Services and Support (ETSS) all offer scheduled training and workshops on authoring /development of accessible sites and content under the Accessibility Track.
These workshops include Accessible Design Concepts, Creating Accessible PDF documents, Understanding Assistive Technology including Screen Readers like JAWS, Creating Accessible Presentations, Captioning using HiCaption and other hands-on training in the use of authoring, retrofitting and validation tools.
ITD and LTS can also schedule custom workshops in creating accessible Flash, authoring in MathML and/or any other accessibility issue that a unit or group requests.
In addition, many workshops are also available as online tutorials
IT Accessibility staff is also available for demonstrations, presentations and workshops that increases awareness and promotes understanding of accessibility issues with current and emerging technologies being integrated in learning environment.
