Creating and Applying Styles
A style is a set of instructions that define the layout and presentation of any typographical unit. Styles establish the font size, color, type, kerning, alignment, left and right indent, line spacing and spacing before and after the paragraph, borders and shading etc.
MS Word comes with a default set of built-in styles which are applied if the document is created using built-in features. These styles can be modified and new styles can be created.
A new style can be based on a previously defined style. When it is based on another style, it will inherit all the attributes and formatting of that style. Any changes to the parent style will automatically flow to the child, making it easy to make global changes in attributes.
