The JC Raulston Arboretum is a nationally acclaimed garden with one of the largest and most diverse collections of landscape plants adapted for landscape use in the Southeast. Plants especially adapted to Piedmont North Carolina conditions are collected and evaluated in an effort to find superior plants for use in southern landscapes.

Announcements and What's New on the JCRA Web Site
Web Site Problem The NC State University's Web server was upgraded on July 1, 2008. Specifically, PHP was upgraded from 4.0 to 5.2. Unfortunately, this has caused some problems on the JCRA Web site. Current Plantings and the old (not current) Calendar of Events (fixed) do not work. J. C.'s Slide Collection seems to work okay, but some errors are generated. Years 2004 through 2006 no longer link correctly, but 2007 and 2008 are fine. The banner photograph no longer rotates properly either (fixed). JC Raulston Arboretum Symposium "Surround Yourself with Shady Characters" September 26-27, 2008 (Friday-Saturday) From the founding of the JC Raulston Arboretum as the NCSU Arboretum in 1976, lectures by renowned speakers have been a major part of the Arboretum's focus. And symposia have been an additional opportunity for in depth study. "Surround Yourself with Shady Characters" takes us back to the basics of the Arboretum's mission with a significant focus on woodlands and trees and the great habitat diversity they provide us. In this two-day symposium, prominent speakers from the United States, Canada, and England will enlighten us with lectures on woodland flora, conifers and broad-leaf evergreens, new tree introductions, plant hunting for new species, and on-going research to provide new and improved selections of well-known trees. An historical account of America's ancient forests from the Ice Age until European discovery of North America will also be presented. Friends of the JC Raulston Arboretum Newsletter Volume 12, Number 1 (Spring 2008) is available on the Web site. This edition of the newsletter is password protected for our members viewing only. "Surround Yourself with Shady Characters"
September 26-27, 2008 (Friday-Saturday)

From the founding of the JC Raulston Arboretum as the NCSU Arboretum in 1976, lectures by renowned speakers have been a major part of the Arboretum's focus.
