A Fun Zhong Guo Jie Class with Chinese Meetup Group
Where in the Triangle area can you find free Chinese classes along with occasional food tasting sessions? Sounds unbelievable, but you can find out a positive answer at the Zhong Guo Jie class with Cynthia, Nora and their students from the Triangle Chinese Meetup Group.
It was a beautiful Saturday morning. In a well-decorated club house meeting room, Cynthia was teaching 7 Chinese learners Pinyin, with great patience and enthusiasm. It’s hard to imagine that she and Nora have been teaching the group voluntarily for almost 1 year. This Saturday marks their 35th Zhong Guo Jie (means Chinese knot) class. Students come and go, but volunteer teachers never stop putting effort in helping those learners to improve their Chinese through various fun ways. Like today, Cynthia was teaching words related to cooking, specifically, how to make the authentic, and delicious wanton noodles.
To make a long story short, we went over ingredients needed for the wanton, the process of making it, and then was put on the spot for hands-on practice. Every one has their own version of wanton – in the shape of rectangular, triangle, or even the candy wrap. They all taste the same good, after immersing in a slowly simmered broth.
Learn Chinese and make friends – a simple mission statement that has drawn 268 Chinese fans around the triangle area, thanks to dedicated organizers like Cynthia and Nora.
