The College of Textiles
with 108 years of teaching, research, and
extension has proven to be the leading college
in the world in textiles. The new world of textiles
is diverse and includes everything from traditional
formation and production of yarn and fabrics
to dyeing and finishing to medical textiles,
nonwovens, nanotextiles, smart textiles,
homeland security, design, fashion, and transportation

Study Abroad
There are plenty of study abrod opportunities
available for students at the College of Textiles.
In Summer 2006, our Centennial Scholars used their
textile enrichment funds to study in Austraila,
Italy, China, and New Zealand. For infomation on
the many study abroad opportunities available to
NCSU students, visit the Study Abroad website or

In May 2006, ten COT faculty (Batra, Suh, King,
Seyam, Ghosh, Kotek, Shamey, Hinks, Hauser and
Gupta) attended the Korean Fiber Society Conference
in Seoul, Korea from May 28 - June 3, 2006. During
this conference the NCSU Korean Student Alumni
Association held a reception for them. This group
of about 30 NCSU COT graduates, all in high academic
and/or research positions, hold regular meetings
and socialize. Following this conference, Dr. Kotek
and Dr. Gupta attended the 4th International Conference
on Textile Biotechnology, June 4 - 7, also held
in Seoul, Korea.

at Brandix College in Colombo, Sri Lanka. |

In July 2006, Drs. Oxenham, Hodge, and Cagle visited
the country of Sri Lanka to discuss a possible
collaboration between the College of Textiles and the
Sri Lanka apparel industry. The outcome of the
visit was a three-year plan in which faculty from the
COT will develop courses in conjunction with faculty from universites
in Sri Lanka. The three-part collaboration will
include courses in the areas of product design and development,
supply chain managment, and industrial engineering.
