Study Options
There are several exciting options for international students who want to pursue a full course of study or another innovative academic program at NC State. While most international students are pursuing a post-baccalaureate or graduate program in one of more than 100 different programs, others are enrolled in a bachelors (undergraduate) degree program, an exchange program, or a short-term study program. NC State University welcomes international students from around the globe who want to join our community of scholars who are creating new knowledge, making new discoveries, and contributing to economic development opportunities in North Carolina, the nation, and the world. A life-changing experience at NC State awaits those who have already attained excellence in their previous studies and work experiences, those who are ready to challenge themselves and achieve their academic and professional goals. Potential overseas applicants should know the academic and research programs at NC State University are not easy, but they are well worth the effort and investment. International graduates from NC State look back at their time here – whether a few months or years - with fondness and gratitude. It’s no wonder so many either don’t want to leave when they graduate or can’t wait to come back.
Please keep in mind that foreign nationals will not be granted F-1 and J-1 visa documentation (the I-20 and DS-2019 respectively) based on admission to a Distance Education (DE) or On-line program. Additionally, it is a violation of status for an F-1 or J-1 student to change curriculum or major from a traditional course of study to a DE or On-line program after arrival to NC State University.
Sponsored F-1 and J-1 students are prohibited from enrolling in DE courses with or attending courses at NC State alternate sites of instruction, including but not limited to sites related to programs with the College of Education and the MBA program at Research Triangle Park. Any questions about international students and enrollment at alternate sites of instruction should be directed to the Office of International Services.
