EPA Grants Official Registration for Child-Safe Insect Repellent
NC State Research Poised to Make Your Summer Even Better


April 2, 2007 --  The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has officially approved BioUD™ as a safe active ingredient in insect repellent for direct skin application with no child restrictions. HOMS, LLC, a North Carolina-based biotech company, will immediately begin distribution of the BioUD ™ formula in a product called Bite Blocker.

The advent of Bite Blocker with BioUD™ is timely as consumers have long awaited a DEET-free, child-safe insect repellent and the bugs are on their way. EPA estimates that one-third of Americans use DEET – the active ingredient in popular insect repellents. While EPA has deemed DEET safe for adults, recent reassessments have resulted in new child safety labeling requirements on all products containing the chemical.

Monoclonal antibodies comprise one of the fastest growing classes of protein therapeutics and are currently being used and developed primarily to treat cancers, autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases and inflammatory diseases.

Biolex Therapeutics, an NC State start-up company, announced results publishes in Nature Biotechnology demonstrating the ability of its proprietary LEX System to produce monoclonal antibodies that have enhanced in vitro potency and efficacy.

 


Pfizer Animal Health Agrees to Acquire Embrex, Inc., the Leader in 'In Ovo' Poultry Vaccine-Delivery Technology

November 15, 2006 --Pfizer Animal Health, a division of Pfizer Inc (NYSE: PFE) has agreed to acquire Embrex, Inc. (NASDAQ: EMBX), an international agricultural biotechnology company known for its Inovoject® vaccine-delivery systems, the companies announced today.

Founded in 1985, Embrex began as an NC State start up and is now an international agricultural biotechnology company focused on developing and providing in ovo solutions that meet the needs of the global poultry industry.

 


 

Nitronex Corporation, an NC State Spin-Out and Leading Developer of GaN-on-Silicon Technology Works with sp3 on Phase II SBIR Award

June 27, 2006 --sp3 Diamond Technologies, Inc., a supplier of wafer scale diamond and diamond products for solving thermal management challenges in high-performance applications, announces receipt of a $750,000 Phase II contract from the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) for GaN on silicon-on-diamond (SOD) development.

 


NC State Researcher Creates New Material: Magnetic Liquid

April 28, 2006 -- Micrograph of a metal-rich, zincchloride-based liquid crystal. Dr. James Martin of NC State's Department of Chemistry is the first researcher to engineer liquid crystals with exceptionally high concentrations of metallic compounds. This discovery has the potential to revolutionize electronic, optic and magnetic products.
