Strawberry Bush (Euonymus americanus)
Strawberry Bush is a deciduous shrub that grows to 5 feet. The leaves are opposite with finely toothed margins. The bark is green, but does split and become darker as the tree ages. In early summer, small, 5-petaled, greenish purple flowers mature. The shrub produces 4-lobed capsules which when opened reveal an orange-red, warty seed.
WildlifeFoliage and twigs are readily eaten by white-tailed deer. Seeds are eaten by songbirds.
