MISSION

The long-term mission of the Comparative Pain Research Laboratory is to improve our ability to manage pain in non-human species. We are doing this through investigation of valid ways to assess acute and chronic pain; through gaining a greater understanding of the neurobiological signature of pain in naturally occuring chronic diseases in animals; and through evaluation of novel analgesic treatments in surgical patients and patients with naturally occuring painful diseases. To help achieve these aims, we collaborate with the Gastrointestinal Physiology Laboratory, Comparative Orthopedic Laboratory, and Pharmacology Analytical Laboratory.
