Centennial Campus attracts record number of new partners, named world’s top research park

Centennial CampusAt first glance, it might appear to be just a large business park. But take a closer look at NC State’s Centennial Campus. An often-copied national model, Centennial Campus is home to unique partnerships and collaborations that have led to some groundbreaking results from semiconductors to genomics tools.

More than 130 businesses, government agencies and NC State research and academic units – like Red Hat’s corporate headquarters, GlaxoSmithKline, MeadWestvaco and the U.S. Department of Agriculture – call Centennial Campus home. To be a partner, businesses and agencies have to develop a plan for collaboration with the university that includes anything from research partnerships to co-ops for students.

The arrangement has worked so well that Centennial Campus was named the top Research Science Park of the Year by the Association of University Research Parks (AURP) and set a record for attracting new partners in a single year. Business as usual here is anything but business as usual.
