When GlaxoSmithKline called for help from students, NC State University sent in…the philosophers? Say what? Sure, we have our engineers, chemists and math majors. But GSK needed help analyzing huge amounts of data related to drug development and health care.
They needed thinkers trained in formal logic. People who can compare big systems, break things down, determine likely outcomes.
GSK funds the undergraduate internships in knowledge exploration at the GSK Drug Discovery Sciences Lab on NC State’s Centennial Campus. So GSK knew what they were getting. It worked. The students were even able to take on data-mining to match specific drugs with patient conditions. Any more questions, Aristotle?
