Driverless Lotus a clue to future auto design

You see it moving down the road, navigating the asphalt, taking hairpin turns, obeying all traffic laws. But there’s no one in the driver’s seat. Just another Lotus Elise driving itself around town.

To Lotus Engineering and to students and faculty at NC State, it's a high-tech, high-performance driverless car that might provide clues to how cars of the future work and also might help develop new robotic vehicles for the military. Lotus donated the car to NC State for just this type of research.

Sports car enthusiasts might see the tricked-out Lotus and think it belongs on the Autobahn. If you see it cruising around campus, you’re going to think, “Cool.”
