Updating OSX

These instructions are for Mac OS X. If you do not know what version of Mac OS you have, click on the Apple Menu, then click About this Mac.

Updating your version of Mac OS X will make your computer less vulnerable by fixing known security holes. You can also download new versions of software such as iTunes, iPhoto and iMovie from this site.

Open Software Update

1 Click on the System Preferences icon in the Dock.

Windows Update

2 In the System Preferences window, select Software Update.

Critical Updates

3 When the Software Update window is visible, click on the Update Now button.

Non-Critical Updates

4 Software Update will contact Apple, and retrieve information about the latest versions of system software and applications. If it finds newer versions than what you have installed, it will display a list of the updated items. Check the items you wish to install. Then click the Install button. You may be asked to type in your password.

Driver Updates

4 Some new components require that you accept a License Agreement. We recommend you read over each agreement prior to clicking Accept.

Driver Updates

Some new components require that you restart your computer. If so, you will see a Restart… button. Make sure you have saved your work and closed any open programs, then click the Restart… button.

If Software Update does not find any new components, it will inform you, and exit.
