			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The national <a href="http://www.scj.us/" target="_blank">Society for Collegiate Journalists</a> has announced the winners of its annual publications and broadcasting contest, with <em>Agromeck</em>, <em>Technician</em> and WKNC among the honorees.</p>
<p>SCJ recognizes the top submissions for yearbook, newspaper, broadcasting, magazine and online media along with offering awards for individual writing and imaging and overall excellence.<span id="more-3735"></span></p>
<p><em>Agromeck</em> yearbook swept all six categories, taking first place in coverage of the year, concept of the book, reporting in words, photography and display and the overall excellence award for large school yearbook. The 2011 <em>Agromeck</em>, edited by Susannah Brinkley, has already won a number of awards from the <a href="http://ncsu.edu/sma/2012/03/yearbook-named-national-champion/" target="_blank">Columbia Scholastic Press Association</a>, <a href="../2011/11/ncsu-student-media-receive-national-honors/" target="_blank">Associated Collegiate Press</a>, <a href="../2011/12/agromeck-technician-among-the-best-of-collegiate-design/" target="_blank">College Media Association</a> and <a href="../2012/02/ncsu-students-receive-statewide-recognition/" target="_blank">North Carolina College Media Association</a>.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.wknc.org" target="_blank">WKNC.org</a>, the website for WKNC 88.1 FM, received a first place overall excellence award for companion broadcast website. <em>Technician</em> was also honored with a third place overall excellence award for newspapers published more than weekly.</p>
<p>Six students received eight individual awards. All entries were published in the 2011 calendar year.</p>

<li> <strong>Susannah Brinkley</strong> received fourth place in newspaper page/spread in the Design of the Year competition.</li>
<li>A story on taco trucks from WKNC&#8217;s &#8220;Eye on the Triangle&#8221; earned <strong>Mark Herring</strong> and the WKNC staff a finalist award for best radio/audio feature from College Broadcasters, Inc. in its national student production awards.</li>
<li> <strong>WKNC.org</strong> was a CBI finalist for best student media website for the second year in a row.</li>
<li> <em>Windover</em> won first place Best of Show for the 2011 edition edited by <strong>Mollie Mohr</strong>.</li>
<li> <em>Agromeck</em> placed third for yearbooks 300 or more pages in Best of Show for the 2011 edition edited by <strong>Susannah Brinkley</strong>.</li>
<li> The Sept. 2, 2011 “88.1 Seconds of <em>Technician</em>,” produced by <strong>Mason Morris</strong>, placed fourth in Best of Show for audio podcast.</li>
<li> The 9/11 10th anniversary edition of <em>Technician</em>, edited by <strong>Laura Wilkinson</strong>, placed ninth in Best of Show for four-year special edition.</li>
<li> College Media Advisers named <strong>Jamie Lynn Gilbert</strong> an Honor Roll Adviser for four-year broadcast. She was one of only seven advisers honored this year and one of only 13 broadcast advisers ever to be recognized by CMA.</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Students from N.C. State Student Media are again being recognized as among the top in the nation by the Associated Collegiate Press and College Broadcasters Inc.<span id="more-3157"></span></p>
<p>ACP expanded its annual individual awards program to honor up to 10 entries in each category this year, announcing finalists over a four-day period beginning Aug. 29. First through fifth place winners will be announced Oct. 29 at the National College Media Convention in Orlando, Fla. <strong>Luis Zapata</strong>, a 2011 alumnus, is a finalist for a Photo Excellence<strong> </strong>award in the Environmental Portrait category. The photo of Chef David Mao from David’s Dumpling and Noodle Bar on Hillsborough Street ran alongside the article &#8220;No MSG, No Fortune Cookies: Redefining casual Chinese food&#8221; in the Jan. 14, 2011 <a href="http://www.technicianonline.com/features/no-msg-no-fortune-cookies-redefining-casual-chinese-food-1.2432093#.TnjVZ1uwW08" target="_blank"><em>Technician</em></a>.</p>

<p><strong>David Mabe</strong>, a senior in computer engineering, received an honorable mention for general news picture for capturing Kelly Hook&#8217;s reaction to her election as 2010-2011 student body president. A photo of a botched save on the baseball field also earned <strong>Brent Kitchen</strong>, a senior in mechanical engineering, an honorable mention for the sports picture category. <p>Alumna <strong>Susannah Brinkley</strong>, editor of the 2011 <em>Agromeck</em>, is a finalist for Design of the Year for newspaper page/spread. The design presented data representing  students&#8217; political and social views from a political science class poll and was published in the Dec. 6, 2010 exam issue of <em>Technician</em>.</p>
