N.C. State’s Student Media Board of Directors hired the media’s top leaders for the 2012-2013 academic year at its March 13 regular meeting.

Technician features editor Mark Herring will take over as editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper on April 28. Herring, a senior in human biology and Spanish language and literature, previously worked as interim editor-in-chief while current leader Laura Wilkinson studied abroad during the summer II semester in 2011. “I want to make Technician a better product than it is now, and I believe with my leadership skills, training, and experience living in this office, I can direct and inspire a production staff to set higher standards,” Herring wrote in his application.

The 111th edition of Agromeck yearbook will produced by Alex Sanchez, a sophomore in communications media. Sanchez is currently the Technician photo editor. Distribution is one of the issues Sanchez addressed in his application. “The key to distributing as many copies of the book as possible is year-round promotion and awareness,” he wrote. “The first is to create an Agromeck promotions listserv that sends students updates on the status of the book, sneak peeks and information about things like senior ads and portraits. … At events like New Student Orientation, tailgate and cap and gown pickups, Agromeck should have a table with books from previous years, a printed copy of the index, a listserv sign up and ordering information.”

The Student Media Board selected Lisa Dickson, a junior in arts applications, as Windhover editor. She served as head of the visual submission committee for the 2012 book edited by Alanna Howard. “I know that I can help to create an innovative and interesting edition of the Windhover through my experience working with other artists in the past, understanding how the inner functioning of a deadline based organization works, as well as my interest and passion for art and design,” Dickson wrote in her application.

Michael Jones, a junior in history, will be the next general manager of WKNC 88.1 FM. Jones is currently an exchange student at University of Leeds where he volunteers for Leeds Student Radio. He has previously held the indie rock music director and assistant music director positions at WKNC. “As general manager one of my top priorities would be creating a community of heavily involved unpaid individuals,” Jones wrote in his application. “Changing the mindset to involvement that focuses more on non-DJ related interaction would put the primary focus of the station on the important behind the scenes jobs that can be done.”

The Business Office Advisory Board named Olivia Pope, a senior in accounting, as the student business office manager. Pope has worked in the business office as an office assistant for three years. To accomplish the business office’s goal of increasing revenue by 5% in 2012-2013, Pope wrote “it would be beneficial to host a catered meeting with campus departments’ public relations and marketing representatives to show how advertising with Student Media can be beneficial for their departments.”

There were no applicants for Nubian Message editor. The position has been re-opened with an application deadline of Thursday, March 29 at noon.
