House ads
Occasionally, it becomes necessary to do some self-promotion. Fliers for Orientation. Posters for the distribution boxes. House ads. They all follow a common style, using the tagline: “Technician was there.” Of course house ads take away from the editorial hole used for news and features and should be used sparingly. They are often a sign to the reader that there wasn’t enough content to fill the paper, indicating lack of planning. However, house ads can also be used effectively to promote an upcoming special edition or event.
