Staff Box

The masthead, or staff box, of the Technician contains more than just a listing of the staff. It contains some legal information.

  1. It reminds the readers that the campus newspaper is a public forum, meaning they can submit letters to the editor and guest columns and have access to the paper as a dialog of divergent opinions.
  2. It reminds the readers that it is the students who have the final say on content without prior review and that the opinions may not be those of the University or even of everyone on staff.
  3. It reminds people that the first copy is free, but additional copies cost money. So if our papers are ever stolen, we can place a value on what was taken and can prosecute.
  4. It also reminds people that the material contained in the paper is copyrighted and may not be reprinted without permission.
  5. Content

Technician (USPS 455-050) is the official student newspaper of N.C. State University and is published every Monday through Friday throughout the academic year from August through May except during holidays and examination periods. Opinions expressed in the columns, cartoons, photo illustrations and letters that appear on Technician’s pages are the views of the individual writers and cartoonists. As a public forum for student expression, the students determine the content of the publication without prior review. To receive permission for reproduction, please write the editor. Subscription cost is $100 per year. A single copy is free to all students, faculty, staff and visitors to the campus. Additional copies are 25¢ each.
