How to Start a Club

Any registered organization affiliated with NC State must first seek and be granted affiliation with the Department of Campus Recreation and Club Sports before calling themselves a Club Sport.  Please read the following for procedures for initiating and becoming an affiliated Club Sport.

The initial steps include:

  1. Contact the Assistant Director-Club Sports about plans to establish a club sport
  2. Schedule an organizational meeting to assist in assessing interest.
  3. Complete procedures required by the Student Organization Resource Center to become an officially registered student organization.
  4. Submit a written proposal to the Assistant Director-Club Sports requesting the formation of a club and include the following items:
    • Introduction about the club
    • Short term and long term goals and objectives of the club
    • Needs of the club (facility space, budget, administration, and other help)
    • List of interested people including addresses, and campus identification numbers
    • A copy of the approved paperwork from the Student Organization Resource Center
    • A copy of a constitution and bylaws
    • Elect 4 club officers: president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer or their equivalent
  5. Once these items have been submitted to the Assistant Director a date will be scheduled for the interested group to present to the Club Sports Council.  The CSC will review and make a recommendation to grant the club Requesting Affiliation Status.  The Assistant Director will then let the club know in writing and through e-mail the updated status.

**Club Sports and the Department of Campus Recreation reserve the right to refuse recognition to any club requiring extensive funding or facility requests and/or resources involving high liability or risk factors which do not properly represent the North Carolina State University student body.
