Club Sports

Club Sports Admin

The student admin will aid in accomplishing typical clerical duties of organizing and filing paperwork, corresponding with participants to submit required paperwork and assisting the Assistant Director in general office duties including database maintenance.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing administrative support for the Club Sports program through organizing, filing, and maintaining records or paperwork submitted by club teams.
  • Helping to update and maintain various database files.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Possess the ability to communicate clearly, effectively and be able to deal with people appropriately.
  • Possess effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess the ability to interact with patrons, participants, professional staff, and coworkers in a professional manner
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 am - 7 pm
Starting Hourly Rate: $7.50

Club Sports Supervisor

The student supervisor (clubs) provides direction and support for club officers and members by serving as a liaison between sport clubs and the club sports administration.  Manages critical incidents as necessary and performs special duties as assigned.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing supervision, initial response medical support and activation of departmental emergency protocols for club sport activities.
  • Supervises nightly club practices and weekend club special events.
  • Assisting club officers, Campus Recreation staff and/or CCFO (facility) staff in any emergency situations that may arise during shift.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Currently certified or willing to be certified in Adult CPR/ First Aid, and AED through the American Red Cross.
  • Able to work evening and weekend hours.
  • Experience in some form of leadership and management capacity preferred.
  • Continued participation in appropriate in-service and training sessions.
  • Possess the ability to communicate clearly, effectively and be able to deal with people appropriately.
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 4:30 - 10 pm; Friday, 4:30 - 9 pm; weekend hours vary

Customer Service

Customer Service Representative (CSR)

The Customer Service Representatives are responsible for customer service in the Campus Recreation office.  CSR’s will answer telephone calls, assist with walk-in customers, track participation, and process payments via the cash register.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide exceptional customer service to all patrons/participants in the office by providing program information and answering questions according to guidelines.
  • Follow all guidelines for the sale of fee-based programs and usage of cash register.
  • Adhere to all cash handling policies and procedures.
  • Answer and route phone calls.
  • Track and organize participation information and manual entry of participation as necessary.
  • Support professional staff in program operations as needed.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Personnel Manager.
  • Represent NCSU Campus Recreation in a professional and positive manner at all times.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess the ability to interact with patrons, participants, professional staff, and coworkers in a professional manner.

Fitness

Fitness Customer Service Representative

The Customer Service Representatives are responsible for customer service in the Campus Recreation Fitness suite.  CSR’s will greet and welcome participants, answer telephone calls, make appointments, track participation, and process payments via the cash register.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing optimal customer service to all patrons/participants in fitness area by providing program information and answering questions according to guidelines
  • Following all guidelines and sound audit procedures concerning the payment for programs and services.
  • Answering and routing phone calls.
  • Schedule appointments for service personnel.
  • Supporting Fitness Department professional staff in program operations as assigned.
  • Conducting oneself in a professional manner at all times that aligns with the values, philosophies, and standards of the NCSU Campus Recreation Department.
  • Performing other duties assigned by the Assistant Director, Fitness.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Possess the ability to communicate clearly, effectively and be able to deal with people appropriately.
  • Possess the ability to interact with patrons, participants, professional staff, and coworkers in a professional manner.

Group Fitness Instructor

Group Fitness Instructors are responsible for teaching safe and effective fitness classes to the NC State University population. They will provide fun and motivational instruction and education on the benefits of healthy living through exercise. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning, preparing, and instructing safe and effective group fitness classes following the established program protocol.
  • Maintaining knowledge of general fitness, wellness, anatomy, kinesiology, and physiology as it relates to human movement and muscular conditioning.
  • Displaying a positive, enthusiastic, and professional demeanor towards all NC State patrons, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Maintaining clean, appropriate, and professional teaching attire.
  • Attending in-service trainings and other mandatory meetings each semester.
  • Assisting with maintaining stereo, music, video, and equipment inventories. 
  • Following all rules and regulations outlined in the Campus Recreation Policy and Procedures Manual.
  • Conducting oneself in a professional manner at all times that aligns with the values, philosophies, and standards of the NCSU Campus Recreation Department.
  • Performing other duties assigned by the Assistant Director – Fitness or other appropriate full-time team member.
  • Participating in Campus Recreation Special Events.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must have successfully completed the Group Fitness Instructor Training Program through NC State Campus Recreation or successfully completed an evaluation process administered by the Coordinator and/or Assistant Director - Fitness.
  • Currently certified or willing to be certified in Adult CPR/ First Aid, and AED through the American Red Cross.

Hours: Monday-Friday 6:30 am-7:30 am,  Monday-Friday 4:30 pm-8:45 pm, Sunday 4:00 pm-6:00 pm

Starting Hourly Rate: $8.25

 

Fitness Personal Trainer

Personal Trainers are responsible for prescribing safe and effective fitness workouts to the NC State University population. They will provide fun and motivational instruction and education on the benefits of healthy living through exercise.

Fitness Program Monitor

A Fitness Monitor manages all set up, monitoring, and take down operations related to Group Fitness classes, specialty classes, and/or Fitness workshops.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Arriving early before class to unlock studio and storage closet doors and set room for participation.
  • Track participation in RecTrac System through manual entry and/or use of PDA’s.
  • Taking attendance at the start and 15 minutes into the class/workshop.
  • Assisting the class/workshop Instructor as needed.
  • Putting away keys, participation binder and PDA at the end of final class.
  • Attending meetings and required team-training sessions.
  • Maintaining clean, appropriate, and professional attire.
  • Conducting oneself in a professional manner at all times that aligns with the values, philosophies, and standards of the NCSU Campus Recreation Department.
  • Performing other duties assigned by the Coordinator, Fitness or other appropriate professional team members.

Required Qualifications:

Intramural Sports

Intramural Equipment Monitor

The equipment monitors manage all operations related to intramural sports and club sports equipment checkout and collection, through the CREC center.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Checking out equipment to participants for the five major sports (basketball, football, soccer, softball, and volleyball) and clubs according to established policies.  Equipment includes, but is not limited to:  jerseys for teams, balls and other sport-specific equipment.
  • Checking out equipment to officials for the five major sports according to established policies.  Equipment includes, but is not limited to:  officials’ shirts, officials’ jackets, penalty cards, stop watches and other sport-specific equipment.
  • Collecting all equipment returned and recording missing and/or damaged equipment at the end of competition.
  • Reporting all deficiencies in equipment from Intramural Sports and Club Sports to the Intramural Sports supervisor.
  • Assisting participants in locating proper game and field locations.
  • Attending meetings and required in-service training sessions.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by Assistant Director, Coordinator, Program Assistants, Intramural Supervisors, or other appropriate full-time team members.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Available and committed to work a minimum of two days a week, Sunday-Thursday between 4:30 pm and 11:00 pm.

Hours: Monday – Thursday, 4:30 –11:00 pm, Sundays when needed
Starting Hourly Rate: $7.50

Intramural Sports Official

Intramural Sports Officials are responsible for officiating intramural games, and setting up and/or breaking down fields. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Attending all sport specific training clinics and officials meetings.
  • Promoting sportsmanship.
  • Providing team sportsmanship rating for each team at the conclusion of games.
  • Setting up and/or breaking down fields.
  • Enforcing all Intramural Sport Rules and Guidelines.
  • Managing equipment and scorekeeping as the need arises.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by Assistant Director, Coordinator, Program Assistants, Intramural Supervisors, or other appropriate full-time team members.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Basic knowledge of the sport.
  • Ability to work in a changing work climate/atmosphere.
  • Possess the ability to communicate clearly, effectively and be able to deal with people appropriately.

Hours: Monday – Thursday, 4:30 -11:30 pm, Sundays when needed

Intramural Sports Scorekeeper

The scorekeeper is responsible for the management and official tracking of game activities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Verifying/recording all participants’ full name and student number.
  • Maintaining appropriate scoring records during game.
  • Recording all fouls, penalty cards, technicals, unsportsmanlike conduct penalties as required.
  • Promoting and recording team sportsmanship ratings.
  • Checking out and collecting equipment for soccer and ultimate frisbee.
  • Attending meetings and required in-service training sessions.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by Assistant Director, Coordinator, Program Assistants, Intramural Supervisors, or other appropriate full-time team members.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Available and committed to work a minimum of two days a week, Monday–Thursday between 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.

Marketing

Marketing Agent

Marketing Agents are responsible for assisting the Assistant Director - Marketing with the creation, development and implementation of all marketing materials.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Following a timeline in executing activities.
  • Representing Campus Recreation fairly, consistently and professionally.
  • Distributing Campus Recreation material in the specified manner.
  • Developing ideas for increasing participation in the Campus Recreation program.
  • Participating in special events as needed.
  • Performing other duties assigned by the Assistant Director – Marketing.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Desire to gain experience in an area of Marketing as it relates to Campus Recreation .
  • Enthusiasm for promoting the department programs and services.
  • Ability to work independently in developing creative programs for the department.
  • Experience in working with a PC. Knowledge in using computer software including, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Macromedia Dreamweaver and Fireworks preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 hours per week.

Marketing Technology Specialist

The Technology Specialist is responsible for assisting the Assistant Director – Marketing with web maintenance, print and web-based publications, development and execution of marketing projects, and special events.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the development and routine maintenance of the Department website using established programs.
  • Assist with the development of Campus Recreation publications, print and web-based.
  • Develop and assist in the implementation of ideas for increased participation in departmental activities.
  • Assist in the coordination and attend departmental collaborative special events and information fairs.
  • Assist with multi-media projects.
  • Research ideas for website features/design and help implement these ideas into future programs.
  • Performing other duties assigned by the Assistant Director – Marketing.

Required Qualifications: 

  • The desire to gain experience in an area of Marketing as it relates to Campus Recreation.
  • Enthusiasm for promoting the department programs and services.

Outdoor Adventures

Outdoor Educator

The Outdoor Educator facilitates (leads/instructs) trips, workshops and clinics under the guidance of the Outdoor Adventures professional staff. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Deliver exceptional customer service to all patrons/participants while facilitating (leads/instructs) trips, workshops and clinics.
  • Lead or Assist with workshops and clinics including: planning, preparing lesson plans, prepping equipment, and facilitating/teaching educational lessons that include experiential activities.
  • Lead or assist with trips to include the following:
    • Planning and organizing trip from initial stage, including time control and menu plans.
    • Conduct pre-trip meetings, pool sessions, and pack checks etc.
    • Provide leadership and direction to participants while on trips about equipment, technical skills, group development and processing, risk management, first aid, safety and minimum impact.
    • Model appropriate behavior at all times.
    • Prepare equipment prior to and clean up and after trips
    • Adhere to all policies and procedures; follow all emergency protocols.
  • Maintain equipment including: checkout and check in, drying, cleaning and disinfecting, verifying serviceability, repairing equipment as necessary, and maintaining a current inventory.
  • Attend all required trainings and in-service trainings; pass van driver training
  • Help promote and market Outdoor Adventures and Campus Recreation.
  • Represent NCSU Campus Recreation and Outdoor Adventures in a professional and positive manner at all times.

Outdoor Rock Wall Supervisor

The Rock Wall Supervisor will strive to provide patrons/participants at the Rock Wall with a safe climbing experience while educating them through clinics, workshops and recreational climbing experiences.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Deliver exceptional customer service by providing a safe climbing wall experience for patrons/participants. 
  • Supervising the Rock Wall, including the following:
    • Conducting safety skill verifications, maintaining a balance between education and skill performance.
    • Conduct belay clinics and complete all administrative paperwork.
    • Provide leadership and direction to Rock Wall patrons/participants with regard to equipment, technical skills, and risk management, while enforcing all policies ands procedures.
    • Model appropriate behavior at all times.
    • Mitigate risk management issues when possible and report to the Assistant Director immediately.
    • Help promote and market Outdoor Adventures and Campus Recreation.
    • Follow all facility and emergency protocols.
    • Continuously monitor rock wall patrons/participants; moving around the rock wall and checking for proper belay techniques, safe climbing practices, proper equipment usage and providing corrective feedback as necessary.
  • Instruct Belay Clinics including: following lesson plans, prepping equipment, teaching technical information and facilitating experiential activities.
  • Help promote and market Outdoor Adventures and Campus Recreation.
  • Represent NCSU Campus Recreation and Outdoor Adventures in a professional and positive manner at all times.
  • Support professional staff in program operations and perform other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Outdoor Adventures Customer Service Representative

The Outdoor Customer Service Representative will process reservations, equipment check out and check in, register participants for trips, clinics and workshops, process all payments, answer questions, clean and maintain equipment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Deliver exceptional customer service to all patrons/participants by providing program information, and assisting with equipment selection and rental.
  • Develop proficiency and accuracy with Rec Trac, credit card transactions, and other duties including equipment reservations and registration paperwork.
  • Adhere to all cash handling policies and procedures.
  • Maintain equipment including: checkout and check in, drying, cleaning and disinfecting, verifying serviceability, repairing equipment as necessary, and maintaining a current inventory.
  • Clerical tasks including: answering and transferring phone calls, sending late equipment emails, photocopying and maintaining a clean, well-organized work environment.
  • Help promote and market Outdoor Adventures and Campus Recreation.
  • Represent NCSU Campus Recreation and Outdoor Adventures in a professional and positive manner at all times.
  • Support professional staff in program operations and perform other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Team Building Apprentice

The Team Building Apprentice is a volunteer position designed to give potential facilitators the opportunity to attend training, and to observe and assist in programming in order to develop and practice their skills and gain the confidence to facilitate groups on their own. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Attend all trainings.
  • Understand and enforce all Outdoor Adventures policies and procedures.
  • Observe a minimum of 6 Team Building/Challenge Course programs involving of a variety of programs, clients, and activities.
  • Begin to develop a repertoire of games, activities, and initiatives.
  • Become familiar with all challenge course elements.
  • Develop specific group dynamics skills such as frontloading activities and debriefing.
  • Develop specific technical skills (knot craft, belay and rescue skills) to be checked by Assistant Director - Outdoor Adventures.
  • Participate in post program staff debriefs.
  • Maintain a log of all trainings and observations.
  • Assist and become familiar with Challenge Course set up & take down.
    After completion of the above standards, the Apprentice will meet with Outdoor Adventures Assistant Director to discuss advancing to Facilitator.
  • Experience working with other challenge courses and certification from training programs will be considered.  A copy of current facilitator certifications and a letter of recommendation from previous employer must be on file with Outdoor Adventures.  In case of extensive experience, specific students may forego some of the Apprentice prerequisites.

Required Qualifications:

Team Building/Challenge Course Facilitator

Facilitators are individuals who successfully completed the Apprenticeship Program and have proven themselves reliable and capable instructors. Facilitators assist Lead Facilitators in leading Team Building/Challenge Course programs in order to gain further experience, facilitation and leadership skills. Facilitators may also have the opportunity for additional work (maintenance, training, etc).

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Attend all mandatory trainings.
  • Understand and enforce all Team Building/Challenge Course Policies and Procedures.
  • Assist the Lead Facilitator with scheduled programs.
  • Present many initiatives and activities to a variety of groups, while being observed by the Lead Facilitator.  Discuss evaluation with lead facilitator(s) and Program Coordinator at the end of program.
  • Develop the ability to modify and adapt activities to meet the needs of the group.
  • Understand the objectives, presentations, and safety concerns of each challenge course element.
  • Continue to develop a repertoire of games, activities, and initiatives.
  • Continue to develop specific group dynamics skills such as frontloading activities and debriefing.
  • Continue to develop technical skills.
  • Participate in post program staff debriefs.
  • Assist in the training/development of Team Building Apprentices.
  • Maintain a log of all trainings attended and programs worked.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Successfully completion of Apprenticeship Program.
  • Possess effective written and verbal communication skills.

Team Building/Challenge Course Lead Facilitator

Lead Facilitators are those Facilitators promoted by the Assistant Director having successfully proved themselves as Facilitators. The Lead Facilitators primary responsibility is leading groups through a Team Building/Challenge Course Program. They must also be role models and offer constructive feedback for Apprentices and Facilitators, assist with staff trainings, and positively represent Outdoor Adventures to the greater campus and community.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the development and implementation of all mandatory trainings.
  • Understand and enforce all Team Building/Challenge Course Policies and Procedures.
  • Assist in designing programs to meet the specific needs of each client.
  • Perform daily course opening inspections and complete appropriate documentation.
  • Present initiatives and activities to a variety of groups.
  • Develop the ability to modify and adapt activities to meet the needs of the group.
  • Fully understand the objectives, presentations, and safety concerns of each challenge course element.
  • Continue to develop a repertoire of games, activities, and initiatives.
  • Continue to develop and apply an understanding of group dynamics and processing techniques.
  • Continue to develop technical skills.
  • Lead post program staff debriefs.
  • Assist in the training/development of Team Building Apprentices and Facilitators.
  • Maintain a log of all trainings (attended or lead) and programs worked.

Required Qualifications: 

  • After serving as a Facilitator, individual will meet with the Assistant Director to discuss readiness to advance to Lead Facilitator status.

  • Possess American Red Cross First Aid and Adult CPR/AED certifications.  Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder preferred.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of experiential education practices and team building/challenge course progressions.
  • Possess the ability to accept guidance and supervision.
  • Possess a desire to continuously develop their facilitation skills and knowledge.

Special Events

Special Events Admin

Special Events Admin’s are responsible for assisting the Assistant Director, Special Events with the planning, organization, and operation of Departmental Special Events.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilizing structured event-planning guidelines and processes to further enhance current special events and to develop new, creative campus collaborations and special events.
  • Providing support to Campus Recreation program area special events as needed (Intramural Sports, Club Sports, Fitness, Outdoor Adventures).
  • Representing Campus Recreation in a professional, enthusiastic, and courteous manner at all related planning meetings with collaborative Campus-partner organizations and departments.
  • Assist in soliciting special event sponsorships and giveaway/prize items for departmental special events
  • Participating in and promoting all special event programs as additional support to departmental Marketing efforts.
  • Assisting in program assessment and surveying tasks as required.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Desire to gain experience in the area of Sport and Special Event management as it relates to Campus Recreation.
  • Must possess strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Possess the ability to work independently as well as in a fast-paced team environment in developing creative special event activities and programs for the NC State community.
  • Experience in working with a PC and related Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel).
  • 5-10 hours per week commitment.
Hours: Monday - Friday, 9am - 10pm, weekend and evening hours vary as needed for events.
Starting Hourly Rate: $7.50
