Tai Chi - Tai Chi is considered a soft style martial art that is characterized by a relaxation or "softness" in the musculature where possible, to distinguish its theory and application from that of the hard martial art styles which use a degree of tension in the muscles. Traditional Tai Chi training is intended to teach awareness of one's own balance and what affects it, awareness of the same in others, an appreciation of the practical value in one's ability to moderate extremes of behavior and attitude at both mental and physical levels, and how this applies to effective self-defense principles.
Hatha Yoga - Hatha Yoga uses physical poses or asanas, breathing techniques or pranayama, and meditation in order to bring the body in perfect health and for more subtle spiritual elements of the mind to emerge freely. Enroll in this class to broaden your yoga experience.
Yoga for Athletes - Yoga for Athletes I is a class designed for any sports enthusiast looking to build strength, stamina, flexibility, and concentration. Whether a novice or experienced yoga practitioner, this series of 27 postures will increase performance and help reduce the risk of sports related injuries. Idea for athletes who participate in, but not limited to, running, tennis, skiing, golf, soccer, cycling, swimming, football, basketball, kayaking, martial arts, rock climbing, hiking, volleyball, baseball or weightlifting.
Meditation - We will guide you through techniques and strategies designed to help you learn to:
· Consciously relax
· Relieve tension and stress
· Calm yourself
· Enhance your health and well-being
· Become more centered
· Reduce anxiety and worry
Meditation is a time-honored method of focusing and centering the mind and relaxing the body. Although meditation techniques originated in spiritual traditions from around the world, they can be practiced independently of any religious belief system and offer a range of physical and psychological benefits.
In these three workshops, you will have the chance to practice different approaches to meditation facilitated by experienced meditators and clinicians from the Counseling Center and the Student Health Service. Spring Semester we will offer a weekly “Group Meditation Hour,” where everyone is welcome to practice and share.
