Belaying is a technique that protects a climber through the use of rope, harnesses, anchors, carabiners and a belay device. The climber’s partner, the belayer, uses this technique to safely catch, hold and lower the climber should they fall.
Belay Clinic Curriculum:
- Harness use
- Climbing knots
- Tying into a harness
- Setting up the belay device
- Belaying technique
- Safety checks
- Commands used in belaying and climbing
- Catching a fall
- Lowering a climber
Belay Clinics have a 1:4 instructor to student ratio and include instruction and all equipment. You should print a copy of our Belay Study Guide to help you prepare for your Safety Skills Assessment.
We will not perform Safety Skills Assessments as part of the Belay Clinic
Registration
- Outdoor Adventures rental counter in the Carmichael Recreation Center from 10 am - 6 pm
Payment
- Belay Clinics cost $10
- Full payment is due at time of registration
- Payment can be made in Cash, Checks made out to NCSU, or Credit/Debit Card. We accept Visa & Mastercard
- No refunds will be issued
- If you need to cancel we will do our best to reschedule you in another clinic
