About SUCCEED
Program Overview
SUCCEED (School-University Collaboration & Commitment to Excellence in Educators’ Development) is a collaborative program whose aim is transformative learning and development for teachers. SUCCEED partners with school systems and other universities in support of teacher learning and development. In recent years we have focused on developing instructional resources for teacher leaders, and supporting assessment of beginning teachers’ perceptions of success.
Current Programs and Research
Graduate Program
NC State’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction houses the graduate program that is associated with SUCCEED. The nationally recognized program in Curriculum Development and Supervision is designed to improve the quality of K-12 schools by preparing leaders who are dedicated to educational excellence and equity. Graduates are expected to use leadership and adult learning strategies that will improve new teacher support, curriculum design, program evaluation, and student performance in environments that are dynamic, interactive, and culturally diverse. Both Ph.D. and M.Ed. programs are available.
Research Projects
Recently, SUCCEED has supported the development of the Perceptions of Success Inventory for Beginning Teachers (PSI-BT). Currently, 14 school systems in North Carolina are using data from the PSI-BT to inform efforts to induct and retain beginning teachers. This inventory and the related research could become a key tool for school systems nationwide as they strive to better support beginning teachers.
